Welcome to my original wax paintings of mysterious silhouettes, gardens, and far away places melted in wax. Many of my wax paintings appear in a magical way to different people. Some see angels, fairies, gothic angel art style images and sometimes a place and face very touching and familiar to ones soul.
I am a self taught artist using ancient techniques created by the Greeks over 2000 years. After many years of experimenting, I have developed my own combination of ingredients to produce bright and bold colors that reinforces the illuminating effect each encaustic painting radiates as with my own unique techniques.
My unique designs and engraved detail work is created by utilizing various hot objects and tools, manipulating the wax to create designs and textures that appears almost 3d when viewed in person. The detail work is much like a hand print in clay, for example, the Angels wings all have blowing hair, each piece of hair is carved into the deep wax and can be felt and seen with the eye. The colors and light effect are very powerful when combined with the engraved details and designs melted into the depth of the wax.
Encaustic paintings are the most durable of all mediums practiced to this current day. Fayum Mummy portraits in Egypt have survived over 2000 years without fading, cracking or flaking. The several inherent qualities that allow these works to withstand the test of time is that it's a natural adhesive and is moisture, mildew and fungus resistant. Wax paints also do not contain solvents or oils so they will not yellow or darken with age, leaving the painting as fresh as the day it was created. Encaustic paintings are said to be the most beautiful of all earliest forms of art. In the first Century BC, Julius Caesar surprised his contemporaries when he commissioned an encaustic painting by the artist Timomako’s for the equivalent of $350,000.
I have strived to create artwork that mystifies and captivates, while raising the perception and imagination to a level where one feels touched by an Angel, and swept away on angel's wings to some place peaceful and illuminating with bright healing lights and color. I know each painting is inspired and created for someone. I have done many paintings and the beautiful stories and inspiration many customers have shared with me is so breathtaking it is as though it was purposely painted for them.
